The PULSE® Development Program is a comprehensive training system for Damage Prevention Specialists (i.e., underground locators). It has been used in the underground locating industry for over 12 years.

This three-week training program was designed to help underground locating operations to:

• Increase employee productivity
• Improve the accuracy of locates
• Reduce the number of damages to underground utilities
• Improve customer satisfaction
• Minimize the number of accidents on the job
• Improve documentation provided by employees

We conducted an extensive analysis of the locator job and identified the most important knowledge, skills, and job-related traits that locators need to be successful. This competency model became the foundation of our PULSE training program, which we have continued to improve year after year.
